LEGISLATIVE SESSION SEES BILLS ON BOTH SIDES OF PRO-LIFE ISSUE

Omaha, NE –
Feb, 18, 2010 –

Nebraskans United for Life, (the State’s only full-service, pro-woman, pro-life group with no exceptions and no compromise on the abortion issue), stands today in favor of LB1103, LB778 and LB594. We also stand in opposition to LB1106 which will push the Planned Parenthood agenda into our schools under the guise of clinics.

Nebraskans United for Life applauds Nebraska Right to Life’s introduction of LB1103, a bill that will put the viability question to rest by acknowledging fetal pain at 20 weeks of gestation –effectively banning post-viability abortions and codifying an underlying fact: the unborn feel pain when they are carved-up and/or burned to death in the womb. Nebraskans United for Life joins all people of right-reason and goodwill in seeking the end to the barbarism of abortion by any (non-violent) means –across the board and without exceptions.

In addition to LB1103, LB594 is a strong bill which seeks give women a fully-informed consent prior to killing their unborn child. In 2009, during testimony before the Judiciary Committee, Planned Parenthood revealed and admitted that their so-called ‘informed-consent’ was comprised of a phone message left on the woman’s answering machine; which, if not returned was counted as informed consent. We find that to be ridiculous. LB594 seeks to compel physicians to tell the truth to women regarding her physiological, psychological and emotional risks of abortion and as such should be enacted without delay.

LB778 insists that Health and Human Services shall make available on its Internet web site a printable publication for health care practitioners to download and print containing standardized, objective information about umbilical cord blood banking that is sufficient to allow a pregnant woman to make an informed decision about whether to participate in an umbilical cord blood banking program. We applaud Family First for moving on this bill.

Nebraskans United for Life vehemently opposes LB1106 for three primary reasons:

1 Healthcare is for parents and doctors to achieve, not the school system;

2 Under the guidelines outlined in the law (below), our children could and would be subjected to any range of services – especially those pushed by the Planned Parenthood Federation (Examples throughout the United States are available);

3 This bill would be one more invitation to raise taxes and impede parental rights, especially in the area of so-called reproductive health; From LB1106
(7) School-based health services may include any combination of the following as determined in partnership with a sponsoring facility, the school district, and the community:
(a) Medical health;
(b) Behavioral and mental health;
(c) Preventive health; and
(d) Oral health;

Please join Nebraskans United for Life in opposing LB1106 and in support of LB1103, LB594 and LB778.
