After their survey is returned to us, we set up an appointment to interview the candidate. We then, decide who will be endorsed.
There are primarily two reasons for not endorsing a candidate. A candidate may choose not to fill out our survey, taking themselves out of consideration for endorsement or a candidate may not answer all questions in a way that affirms an unwavering pro-life stance on the issues. Some other issues may include a voting record showing a weak stance on pro-life issues, donations to anti-life causes or similar activities that have not been reconciled satisfactorily with Nebraskans United for Life.
****************************************************
Today's 40 Days for Life devotional is at the bottom
of this e-mail message and can also be downloaded at:
http://40daysforlife.com/docs/fall2008day23print.pdf
****************************************************

Dear Pro-Lifer,

Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion
chain, does NOT like 40 Days for Life.

The billion-dollar organization -- that rakes in
$336.7 million tax dollars each year while aborting
289,750 children -- is always fighting to protect its
bottom line.

And it has brought out one of its tired old ploys for
this fall's 40 Days for Life -- a campaign it calls
"Pledge-a-Picket."

Planned Parenthood supporters are asked to make a
donation for each person who prays outside its
facilities, claiming that pro-lifers are helping
to raise money for the abortion business.

Planned Parenthood has been using this tactic in
numerous cities across the country where 40 Days for
Life campaigns are disrupting customer income.

To further demonstrate how much 40 Days for Life is
impacting Planned Parenthood's revenue stream, the
organization has now rolled out a national campaign
attempting to counter the impact of 40 Days for Life
while raising funds for the abortion operation.

They use a web-based blog called, "I am Emily X,"
which uses a made-up character that represents, "a
small group of Planned Parenthood employees," who
continually accuse 40 Days for Life participants of
harassing clinic workers and customers.

To give an example, the blog reported this Tuesday
from Nebraska where the abortion workers have counted
more than 350 volunteers participating in the 40 Days
for Life campaign thus far. (Great job, Nebraska!)

"Emily X" then condemns a group of Catholic priests
and lay people who came out to peacefully pray the
rosary together outside their doors, saying, "I worry
about how intimidating the sound of all those voices
at once can be," before claiming that the rosary,
"has been corrupted as a tool to frighten women."

That's what they call intimidation?

First of all, if Planned Parenthood tries
Pledge-a-Picket in your community, please don't
change what you're doing!

You are NOT raising money for Planned Parenthood.
This is a deceptive campaign meant to dissuade
faithful people whose prayers are cutting in to the
abortion chain's bottom line. You are praying to end
the evil of abortion -- PLEASE DON'T STOP!

Devanie Cooper, the local 40 Days for Life
coordinator in Memphis, gave a great answer when a
WREG-TV reporter asked her about Pledge-a-Picket.
"Prayer and fasting works better than money does,"
she said. "We're going to win this; God's going to
win this."

The 40 Days for Life team in Manchester, New
Hampshire is noting the real effect this campaign is
having on Planned Parenthood.

Mike and his wife pray outside near the end of the
business day. "We observe that the people working at
the clinic leave all at once and very quickly in
order to avoid any interaction with us," he said. "I
believe that deep down in their souls they know that
what they are doing is evil."

I suspect that the 40 Days for Life team in Spokane,
Washington is having a similar impact. Why else would
Planned Parenthood send eight of its own employees
outside with signs promoting "choice"?

"Two or three more joined them within the next half
hour," said Inga. "They lined up on the curb on
either side of our prayer volunteers, with an
'in-your-face' attitude, mocking us with their looks
and laughter. This was the first time in either
campaign that we have encountered this kind of
persecution."

Inga said only two people were signed up to pray at
the vigil when this happened, but God had other
plans. The people who were scheduled to leave the
vigil stayed and kept praying -- and other people
kept arriving to join them until more than two dozen
faithful believers were gathered in prayer outside of
Planned Parenthood.

When 5 o'clock came, the Planned Parenthood employees
gave up and went home. But the 40 Days for Life team
continued to pray.

"We all felt great cause for rejoicing that we had
been found worthy to suffer for truth and life," Inga
said. "Truly, this is a sign that we are somehow
getting under their skin, disrupting business,
causing women to not keep their appointments,
possibly even saving lives of babies and keeping
women from a lifetime of regret."

Please keep Planned Parenthood and its employees in
your prayers. A call to conversion can be extremely
unsettling to those being called. But the call is
strong, and it is real.

Here's today's devotional from Dennis DiMauro, the
Lutherans for Life representative to the National Pro
-Life Religious Council...

-----------------------------------------------------
DAY 23 INTENTION
-----------------------------------------------------

We pray for the strength to love those who do not
love us.

-----------------------------------------------------
SCRIPTURE
-----------------------------------------------------

But the Lord said "You have had pity on the plant for
which you have not labored, nor made it grow, which
came up in the night and perished in the night. And
should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which
are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons
who cannot discern between their right hand and their
left, and much livestock? Should I not be concerned
about that great city?"

-- Jonah 4:10-11

-----------------------------------------------------
REFLECTION by Dennis DiMauro
-----------------------------------------------------

God doesn't value people and things like we do. Jonah
loved a shade tree more than an entire city of sinful
people. We love our dogs more than a terrorist. We
love our cars more than a beggar on the side of the
road. And sometimes, we love our money more than a
child growing in a desperate teenager's womb.

But God isn't like us. Genesis 1 tells us that humans
were the capstone of God's creation. We were created
on the sixth day after God had completed the land,
the stars, the plants and the animals. Therefore, His
love for us is greater than His love for a plant, an
animal, or any other created thing.

And the book of Jonah tells us that He loves even the
most sinful people and seeks to bring them into His
merciful arms. And it's a love that seeks to touch
all of his created children: that desperate teenager,
the baby growing in her womb, even tyrants and
terrorists.

So it's up to us to imitate God's merciful love by
helping and praying for those who persecute us, and
those who don't love us back.

-----------------------------------------------------
PRAYER
-----------------------------------------------------

Gracious God, loving our enemies seems like one of
most difficult things you could ask of us. Please
remind us that this is how you love and that if you
ask it of us then you will give us the grace to do
it. This we ask through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Dear Pro-Lifer,

A few hours ago, a record 2,004 people from coast-to-
coast participated in the 40 Days for Life "Midpoint"
Tele-Rally and Webcast.

Here are just a few of the unsolicited comments sent
to us by participants after the call:

"What a blessing your webcast was to me and several
of my friends. I just can't express with words how
much this really encouraged me and my friends to go
all the way with Jesus for saving unborn babies."

--Joan

"Beautiful, thank U for the testimonies and prayers
for this wonderful mission. Tonight's message on
the web was awesome."

--Emily

"Thank you for the amazing, inspiring teleconference
this evening! It was a blessing for so many people.
I am looking forward to the second half of 40
Days!"
--Malori

I think you get the idea -- the call was really
inspirational!

Our twelve dynamic presenters -- national and local
leaders -- poured out an hour and 25 minutes of
hope-filled success reports from across North
America...

...and we shared the breaking news about the number
of confirmed lives saved during the first half of
this fall's 40 Days for Life campaign:

268!!

This call contained such vital information for this
crucial moment in history -- that we quickly worked
to post the entire recording online, and it's now
ready for you!

You, your friends, and family members can listen via
streaming web audio or download the MP3 file to your
iPod or computer (even if you only have a dial-up
Internet connection). Just go to:

http://www.instantteleseminar.com/?eventid=4586745

If you are sick of hearing all the negative news
every time you turn on the radio or television and
want to get a renewed sense of HOPE -- then you need
to listen to the recording of this call in the next
24 hours.

I have NEVER been more optimistic than I am today!

Here's today's devotional from Georgette Forney,
President of Anglicans for Life...

-----------------------------------------------------
DAY 22 INTENTION
-----------------------------------------------------

May those who hold life as trivial realize that we
live because God wills it so.

-----------------------------------------------------
SCRIPTURE
-----------------------------------------------------

Who among all these does not know that the hand of
the Lord has done this, in His hand is the life of
every creature and the breath of all mankind.

-- Job 12:9-10

-----------------------------------------------------
REFLECTION by Georgette Forney, Anglicans for Life
-----------------------------------------------------

Job was a man acquainted with grief, trials and
tribulation. He had everything taken from him,
including his family. He endured sickness, ridicule
and judgment from his friends. Everyone gave him
advice about his situation, questioning his
spirituality and his God.

Job's circumstances were bad but he never loses
faith. Why? Because "the hand of the Lord has made
all life." Created by God, he knows his life has
meaning and purpose, regardless of the circumstances.

In our present culture, we've lost that basic truth;
every life is made and allowed to live by God's
sovereign authority. As people who pride ourselves on
our independence, we have a hard time acknowledging
our dependence on God.

From our creation, when we were knit together in our
mother's womb to our last breath, God's word is clear
that "in His hand is the life of every creature and
the breath of all mankind."

It's time for us as individuals, and as a society, to
recognize that we exist by God's grace and turn back
to Him, honoring His word and His teachings. Why?
Because our world is full of Jobs, people who are
dealing with trials and tribulations and hurting
desperately.

Job's response should be ours as well. Regardless of
what we face (even an unplanned pregnancy) God in His
wisdom and mercy will redeem it.

How do I know? Job's friends who doubted God's
sovereignty cry out to God asking for help, God
instructs Job to pray for his friends and after he
does, God restores all that Job had lost.

In other words, because Job never lost faith and knew
and trusted His Creator, the Lord blessed Job.

-----------------------------------------------------
PRAYER
-----------------------------------------------------

Thank you Father God for being the Creator of my life
and every life. Please give me, and the society in
which I live, an appreciation for your gift of life.
Please help us set aside our pride and acknowledge
that we need you.

Show me how I can honor you today in response to all
the blessings you bestow so freely. In the name of
Jesus, Amen.

-----------------------------------------------------

One of the important pro-life battles going on in
America during this 40 Days for Life campaign is the
Colorado Personhood Amendment Initiative.

This effort began when 19-year-old Kristi Burton
launched an effort that gathered more than 130,000
signatures to place on this fall's Colorado ballot a
life-saving amendment that would add these simple
words to the state constitution:

"The term 'Person' or 'Persons' shall include
any human from the time of fertilization."

Simple, yet POWERFUL.

These 14 words would establish protection for the
most helpless in our midst -- innocent children in
the womb.

Though it is not a 40 Days for Life event, you
can learn more about the Colorado initiative -- and
its implications for the rest of the country -- by
participating in a conference call briefing tonight,
Wednesday, October 15, at 7 PM Mountain (9 PM
Eastern, 8 PM Central, 6 PM Pacific).

On the call, I will be joining Eduardo Verastegui
(star of the pro-life movie "Bella") and the leaders
of the historic Colorado Personhood initiative -- and
you're invited to join us!

The Nineveh Journey consists of 50 days of prayer and fasting, one day for each state. It begins on September 6th,and the last day is November 4nd, Election day. Sundays are excluded. We will pray for the states in alphabetical order.

"Jonah...had gone but a single day's walk announcing, 'Forty days more and Nineveh shall be destroyed,' when the people of Nineveh believed God, they proclaimed a fast, and all of them, great and small, put on sackcloth..." Jon 3:4-5

Because of its disrespect for human life through the killing of its preborn children and the elderly and disabled, America is in no better shape than ancient Nineveh. We must do everything we can to help save our country, and Nineveh gives us a model of hope to follow. The need for conversion becomes all the more pressing as we approach the elections this year...will we continue to support the ongoing destruction of our unborn children?

The Nineveh Journey is a project sponsored by the Pro Sanctity Movement intended to help us all return to the God we have forgotten. Please join us as we pray and fast for the good of our country!

Remember to end the 50 Days appropriately: VOTE (pro-life, of course).

What sacrifices and prayers you make each day are up to your own discernment. Please pray about this.
We do have some suggestions, though:
Sacrifices (every day):

No TV
No coffee
Foregoing buying unnecessary things and giving the saved money to charity
Eating only bread and water for one meal a day
No sweets
No radio/CDs
No internet
No video games
No eating between meals

Prayers :

1/2 hr. listening to and praying Praise and Worship
Stations of the Cross
Making a Holy Hour
A Rosary
Daily Mass
An extra 20 min. of Bible-reading and meditation
a Chaplet of Divine Mercy

============

Our second national campaign for 2008 will take place September 24 - November 2 and will be conducted in cities from coast to coast.

40 Days for Life is a community-based campaign that draws attention to the evil of abortion through the use of a three-point program:

Prayer and fasting
Constant vigil
* Community outreach

40 Days for Life takes a determined, peaceful approach to showing local communities the consequences of abortion in their own neighborhoods, for their own friends and families. It puts into action a desire to cooperate with God in the carrying out of His plan for the end of abortion in America.

The 40-day campaign tracks Biblical history, where God used 40-day periods to transform individuals, communities ... and the entire world. From Noah in the flood to Moses on the mountain to the disciples after Christ's resurrection, it is clear that God sees the transformative value of His people accepting and meeting a 40-day challenge.

Organize your church, prayer group, bible study group, nights of
Columbus, etc., to schedule a day for 24 hours of praying in front of
the Bellevue abortion clinic and/or the Planned Parenthood clinic in
Council Bluffs.
