Helping new families

At Nebraskans United for Life, we protect and take care of life at every stage. We are here to help anyone in need. We provide food and other personal care items to the homeless and near homeless through Blue Dream Ministries: weekly donations go to the poor directly and a portion of it goes to the Stephen Center and the Bethlehem House.

Blue Dream, referred a pregnant young lady to us. After some counseling, we found out that she was in bed rest due to problems with her kidneys. We checked on her progress again, only to discover that she had nothing for her new baby! We immediately jumped into action and we have been able to cover her needs. We are providing food for her (she loves bagels with butter and garlic), and with the amazing help from our friends, she has now everything she needs!

We donated a ton of new born boy clothes, some bottles and a couple of other little things; crib sheets and the crib bumper, a medela breast pump, baby bath, socks, bottles and pacifiers, and other very important supplies needed for a new baby.

We welcome baby Liam to this world by letting him know that he will never be alone, and there will always be help around the corner if he needs it!

Keynote Speaker: Rita Diller, STOPP National Director

Rita Diller is the National Director of American Life League’s Stop Planned Parenthood project.

As National Director, Rita is responsible for leading American Life League’s effort against Planned Parenthood in the United States. She is the managing editor of the Wednesday STOPP Report and is responsible for overseeing research on Planned Parenthood and supplying detailed information about PP to pro-lifers all across the country.

Rita serves as a consultant to many groups and shares with those fighting Planned Parenthood the successful techniques that have been developed across the country.

Rita has more than 26 years experience across the spectrum of pro-life work, including 12 years as Respect Life Director for the Diocese of Amarillo, working closely with Bishop John Yanta. While in Amarillo, she trained volunteers and established weekly prayer vigils at PP centers; challenged PP at every turn — in the media, on the streets, at their meetings, fundraisers, educational events, in community organizations, before the city council; and educated their supporters and the community at large about the PP agenda. At the end of the 12 year campaign to expose Planned Parenthood in the Amarillo area, 19 PP facilities had shut down and the remaining two disaffiliated from the Planned Parenthood Federation.

In addition to her work against Planned Parenthood, while in Amarillo Rita was Editor-in-Chief of the diocesan newspaper; established all the ancillary pro-life ministries: Rachel’s Vineyard; Gabriel Project; Blessing Blanket Project; end of life outreach and resources; Youth for Life; the annual Pilgrimage to the Cross in Groom and Lock-in for Life for teens; pro-life educational outreach; and advocacy for pro-life initiatives and legislation.

Prior to her work in Amarillo, Rita was active in the pro-life community in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was on the initial board of directors of the first Gabriel Project to be established in the United States; was a volunteer counselor and officer of Birthright; was volunteer director of Hope House, a home for women in crisis pregnancy situations; was a sidewalk counselor for many years at the abortion mills in Corpus Christi, where she witnessed many miracles and God’s mercy in sparing the lives of many babies. With the blessing and under the watchful eye of Bishop René Gracida, she participated in Body of Christ Rescues, and following the cessation of rescues, participated in weekly prayer vigils at the abortion centers. After years of prayer and perseverance by Corpus Christi pro-lifers, the 2 major abortion mills closed and one remaining abortion facility in an OB/GYN office temporarily closed.

In her professional work, Rita received a degree in Court Reporting from Southwest Business College in Plainview, Texas, in 1978. She was certified by the State of Texas to report in all the Courts in the state and was the official court reporter for the 105th Judicial District Court in Nueces, Kleberg and Kenedy Counties of Texas. She later worked as a freelance court reporter, eventually starting her own court reporting firm, Affiliated Court Reporters.

Nebraskans United for Life was saddened to learn that Cindy Valle has gone missing. She is a 15 years old, Hispanic, 5’2″ girl with black hair and brown eyes with a child on the way soon. She has our prayers for her and her child and access to the full resources of our organization allocated for prenatal and ongoing care, including food, clothing, etc. We will continue to show our support for her and would ask for your vigilance both in prayer and keeping an eye out for her. In a letter today, I called on the Administration to live up to promises made during the health care debate by the President and some in Congress to protect conscience rights. The Department of Health and Human Services recently proposed a rule to implement the new health care law requiring all new health insurance plans to provide preventative services, including contraceptives and the “morning after” pill, at no cost to the patient. It included a “religious exemption” clause, but it is too narrow. Many faith-based businesses, hospitals and other organizations will be faced with the difficult choice of complying with this rule against their deeply-held convictions or dropping health care coverage entirely.

I’m deeply disappointed in the rule, though I can’t say I’m surprised. Throughout the health care debate, I continuously warned that it did not go far enough to protect life and conscience rights, and it is one of the many reasons I voted against it. Pro-life individuals were misled when they were promised the protection of conscience rights during the health care debate. I said all along the health care bill did not go far enough to protect life, and this latest rule is one more example of the law’s broken promises.

National Leader Fights Planned Parenthood in Nebraska
Jim Sedlak, National Leader and Vice President of American Life League and founder of STOPP (Stop Planned Parenthood) International, is working to warn and address parents and concerned citizens about the effects of Planned Parenthood’s stated desire to open clinics in six Nebraska communities.
Sedlak is a recognized expert on Planned Parenthood and has been fighting the organization for over 25 years. In the 1990′s, he helped thwart Planned Parenthood’s goal of having 2,000 clinics by the year 2000. His efforts resulted in communities refusing to allow Planned Parenthood to open new clinics and in other communities closing down existing Planned Parenthood clinics.

Does Carhart have an assistant?

Dear all,

For the last 2 weeks the abortion center has been open on Wednesday and Thursday. Last week we were caught totally off guard. I called the Director of the Coalition for Life office in German Town, Maryland to see if he could help us in anyway determine when Carhart would be in Bellevue. I was surprised when he told me that Carhart was in Maryland on Monday. How could this be possible for him to be doing late term abortions in Maryland but only be there one day? I asked him to check to see if he possibly might be starting abortions on Saturdays and finishing up on Mondays. He said he would but he also said that they think that he might have an assistant in Maryland who could possibly be finishing the late term abortions.

I do not know what the answer is yet BUT what I do know is we need to cover Wednesday and Thursday. I know if he has changed his schedule permanently seeing most of the women on Wednesday is to his advantage because he knows we are divided between Bellevue and the PP in Omaha.

Please consider coming to Bellevue on Wednesday. If you could come for an hour or two starting at 7:30 or 8:00 that would be great. Last Thursday we had three people coming at 7:30 but by the time I got there at about 7:25 all the moms were already in, so if he is open on Wednesday this week we need people that could be at the mill by 6:30 or 7:00.

“Understanding” Joe Biden Perfects the Kowtow

The Vice President is being hammered for seeming to condone Chinese-style population control. Answering a question about the one-child policy, he seemed to go out of his way to be noncritical, saying that he “fully understands” the one-child-per-family policy and was not “second-guessing” it.
His defenders maintain that this does not constitute an endorsement of the policy, tacit or otherwise, and that Biden was merely being diplomatic. Of course, this is not much of a defense since, even if this is the case, then the Vice President is guilty of whitewashing the worst ongoing human rights abuse of our century, one which costs millions of lives each year.
Others believe that the sitting Vice President suffers from a chronic case of foot-in-mouth disease. His misstatements should not be taken seriously, they say, because they are just the latest in a long line of gaffes. (This suggests that Biden should never be allowed to open his mouth without a teleprompter in front of him.)
Still others believe that Biden was simply ignorant of the way that Beijing’s one-child policy is enforced by means of forced abortions, forced sterilizations, and other coercive measures.
But this explanation doesn’t exculpate the Vice President either, and let me tell you why: I know that Joe Biden “fully understands” how women are arrested for the “crime” of being pregnant, how they are incarcerated and browbeaten for this “crime,” and how they are forced to undergo abortions and sterilizations. I know because, while serving as a Commissioner of the U.S. Commission on Broadcasting to China in the early nineties, I told him so.
Rather, my take on the incident is that the Vice President was clearly pandering to his Chinese hosts. It wasn’t ignorance and it wasn’t a gaffe. Biden wanted China’s communist leaders to know that he and the President he serves are more than willing to turn a blind eye to atrocities committed in the name of the one-child policy.
In other words, “Understanding” Joe Biden has perfected the kowtow.
Taken aback by the criticism his remarks occasioned at home, Biden now says that he finds the policy “repugnant.”
The Obama administration itself went even further, issuing a statement declaring that it “strongly opposes all aspects of China’s coercive birth limitation policies, including forced abortion and forced sterilization.”
Really?
This is the same administration that continues to pour money into the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), which is China’s chief international collaborator when it comes to carrying out the one-child policy. The UNFPA’s so-called “model family planning” program in China is rife with forced abortions, sterilization targets and other coercive tactics, as PRI investigations have repeatedly documented. Yet Obama wants to give another $47 million to the UNFPA in the coming fiscal year.
Then there is the money that the Obamanauts continue to funnel to the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), which also works hand in glove with Beijing’s population control apparatus.
I will believe that the Obama administration “strongly opposes all aspects of China’s coercive birth limitation policies” when it stops sending your tax dollars and mine to the UNFPA and the IPPF to fund their dirty work in China.
And maybe the next time he visits China the Vice President can be convinced to bang his head on the floor a little less loudly.

‘Telemed’ abortions a felony

LINCOLN, Nebraska, May 23, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Nebraska legislature has passed a bill that would make it a felony for abortionists to perform medical abortions via webcam, also known as “telemed” abortions.
The bill, LB 521, passed the final stage of debate 38 to 9, with two not voting. LB 521, introduced by Senator Tony Fulton of Lincoln and prioritized by Senator Dave Bloomfield of Hoskins, places in law the prohibition against telemed abortions that previously existed as regulations under the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
“Huge kudos to the Nebraska Legislature for stopping chemical webcam abortions before they start by passing LB 521,” said Julie Schmit-Albin, Executive Director of Nebraska Right to Life, in a press release Monday.
“Since the abortion industry comes up with new methods of killing unborn children, it’s up to States to address something that wasn’t even occurring when Roe v. Wade came into being in 1973,” said Schmit-Albin.
The local leader noted that Planned Parenthood of the Heartland began telemed abortions in Iowa in 2008, and has conducted over 2,000 such abortions since then. Critics say the procedure is too dangerous given the high rate of complications and even deaths associated with use of the abortion drug.
Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood director from Bryan, Texas, has said that telemedicine would put women at risk, but this has not stopped Planned Parenthood from seeking to roll out the new protocol across America. “Even when I was a 2008 Planned Parenthood ‘employee of the year,’ I thought this system sounded risky,” said Johnson in June of last year.
Schmidt-Albin said that the legislature “rightly concluded” that the Cornhusker state “did not need to be the next testing ground for Planned Parenthood’s desire to expand chemical abortions beyond urban areas of the State.”
Nebraska joins Kansas, Oklahoma and Arizona in passing webcam abortion bills this year.

30-mile rule

“Any physician performing or inducing an abortion who does not have clinical privileges at a hospital which offers obstetrical or gynecological care located within thirty miles of the location at which the abortion is performed or induced shall be guilty of a class A misdemeanor, and, upon conviction shall be punished as provided by law.” § 188.080 R.S.Mo. (2005)

This bill resulted in the closing of 1 of only 2 remaining abortion clinics within 60 days of passage. Planned Parenthood even backed off its legal challenge in order to avoid a bad precedent for it. Missouri’s bill is perfectly constitutional and Roe v. Wade says nothing to invalidate it. In fact, there is language in Roe v. Wade supporting this bill: “The [state's] interest obviously extends at least to the performing physician and his staff, to the availability of after-care, and to adequate provision for any complication or emergency that might arise.”

This bill is far more effective and easier to pass than any other proposed legislation. Please oppose any dilution of this law! The distance of 30 miles needs to be included, and there should not be any loophole for an “arrangement” between the abortionist and another physician at a hospital.
